Cocaine Haul

3.8.2011

Yesterday, £300m worth of cocaine was seized from the 'Louise', moored in Southampton. This international law enforcement operation involved agencies from seven countries. I was struck by a comment made by David Almond of the Serious Organised Crime Agency to a BBC reporter. "This is a global threat which requires a global response. It requires trusted partnerships and for people to rely on the information and intelligence that they are given."

Business, government, NGOs - most sectors today have to negotiate and collaborate with strategic partners. This requires flexible organisation, cultural awareness, and new processes and behaviours. People need to become better at resolving conflict than creating it. Above all it needs trust or all you will have are high-walled silos with occasional mouthing but no real co-operation. As Mr Almond made clear there can be a lot at stake, and to deliver up the benefits trusted partnerships are essential.
